Genoa (Genoa, in Italian) is a port city in the northwestern Italian region of Liguria, of which it is the capital. It is known for its central role in maritime trade for centuries. In the old town is the Romanesque cathedral of San Lorenzo, which has frescoes inside and a characteristic facade of black and white stripes. Through the narrow alleys you can access several monumental squares, such as Piazza de Ferrari, where an emblematic bronze fountain stands and the Teatro Carlo Felice opera house is located.
