Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, is the largest city on the Montevideo Bay. The center of the city is the Plaza de la Independencia, which was once a Spanish citadel. Adjacent to the square is the Old City, noted for its art deco buildings and colonial-era houses and monuments, such as the prominent Palacio Salvo and the neoclassical Solís Theater. In the Mercado del Puerto there are a large number of grills.
