Austria is a German-speaking country in Central Europe, characterized by mountain villas, Baroque architecture, imperial history, and rugged alpine terrain. Vienna, its capital on the River Danube, is home to the Schönbrunn and Hofburg palaces. It had among its residents Mozart, Strauss and Freud. Other important regions of the country are the Bohemian Forest to the north, Lake Traunsee and the vineyards on the eastern slopes.
