Rajasthan is a state in northern India that borders Pakistan. Its palaces and forts are reminders of the numerous kingdoms that historically disputed the region. In its capital, Jaipur (the "Pink City"), is the 18th-century City Palace and Hawa Mahal, a former royal women's cloister, with a 5-story pink sandstone screen fronting it. Amer Fort, on a nearby hill, was built by a Rajput prince in the early 17th century.
