Washington D.C., the capital of the United States, is a compact city on the Potomac River, which borders the states of Maryland and Virginia. It is characterized by its imposing neoclassical monuments and buildings, including the iconic ones that house the 3 branches of the federal government: the Capitol, the White House and the Supreme Court. It also has iconic museums and performing arts venues, like the Kennedy Center.
