The Círculo Ecuestre had the honor of organizing an outstanding conference with Albert Vilumara, Corporate Director of the 37th America's Cup, and Daniel Puig, President of the Executive Committee of the Barcelona Capital Náutica Foundation, on June 18. The event, held at the club's facilities, was welcomed by Enrique Lacalle, President of the Círculo Ecuestre, and the presentation of Francisco Guarner, Member of the Governing Board.
During the conference, the speakers offered a detailed vision of the main aspects of the 37th America's Cup, from its history to the process that led to the selection of Barcelona as the venue for this edition.
The Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup, the oldest international sports trophy, dates back to 1851 and is considered one of the greatest sporting challenges in the world. With an impressive legacy, the trophy has been defended and won by some of the most prestigious yacht clubs, including the New York Yacht Club, which held it for 132 years before being successfully challenged by Australia in 1983. Since then, only teams from the United States, Switzerland and New Zealand have managed to lift the cup. Currently, the defender is Emirates Team New Zealand, representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
The 37th America's Cup will be held between August and October 2024 in Barcelona, one of the most emblematic and visited cities in the world. The events will take place in the vibrant surroundings of Port Vell and extend along the beach to Port Olímpic. This edition promises to be one of the most exciting in the 174-year history of the event.
The program will include a series of preliminary races that will serve as a warm-up before the Louis Vuitton Cup, where it will be decided who will face the defender in the final Match in October. In addition, competitions will be held for both women and young people, with the Puig Women's and the UniCredit Youth America's Cup, marking a milestone in opening opportunities and development for future generations in the sport of sailing.
The conference concluded with a question and answer session, allowing attendees to interact directly with the speakers and delve into the details of this prestigious nautical event.
