On February 18, the Círculo Ecuestre Youth Committee held a key conference on business succession, addressing one of the most relevant questions for entrepreneurs and managers: “What will happen to my company when I retire?”.
The event, presented by Emilio Zegrí, President of the Círculo Ecuestre Youth Committee, included the participation of Francesc Domínguez, professional development mentor and corporate and legal marketing consultant, and Fernando Gil Rochera, an expert with more than 15 years of experience in large Corporate Finance and M&A firms.
The speakers analyzed the emotional and strategic difficulties that come with generational change, highlighting the importance of choosing the right moment and preparing the transition in advance. The key attitudes that an outgoing leader must adopt were presented, as well as the most common mistakes that can put the continuity of the business at risk.
One of the central topics was succession in companies without a natural heir, exploring the alternative of opting for an internal or external candidate and the essential criteria for identifying the ideal successor. The speakers highlighted the importance of developing their own identity and leadership style, differentiating themselves from their predecessor without losing the essence of the company.
The event also covered strategies to prevent conflicts during the process, emphasizing the importance of company protocol, the shareholders' agreement and a well-structured succession plan. The viability of shared leadership was also addressed, as well as possible solutions in the absence of a suitable candidate.
Finally, the experts pointed out that, in the absence of a clear succession, the sale of the company can represent a strategic opportunity, guaranteeing its continuity and growth in new hands.
This event allowed attendees to obtain a comprehensive view of business succession and the possibility of a generational change becoming a competitive advantage for the future.
