On Wednesday, December 4, the Círculo Ecuestre hosted an emotional discussion in tribute to the outstanding career of Josep Piqué, a Spanish economist, businessman and politician, whose work left a deep mark in the public and private spheres. The event, organized by the Toqueville Club and which began at 7:30 p.m., brought together personalities from the political, business and cultural world to pay tribute to a key figure in the recent history of Spain.

Enrique Lacalle, president of the Círculo Ecuestre, was in charge of welcoming the event and highlighting the relevance of Josep Piqué as an intellectual reference and his invaluable contribution to Spanish society. Later, Tirso Gracia, member of the Círculo's Executive Committee, presented the event, highlighting the achievements and legacy of the honoree.




The tribute included interventions by prominent speakers who shared anecdotes and reflections on Piqué's life, such as Gloria Lomana, widow of the economist Valentí Puig, writer; Josep Maria Lloveras, former EU ambassador to various countries; and Jaume Duch, Minister of the European Union and Foreign Affairs of the Generalitat.




During the tribute, the economist's career was reviewed, emphasizing the following: Josep Piqué, who held the positions of Minister of Industry and Energy, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Science and Technology, as well as Government spokesman, was a key figure in the governments of José María Aznar. His work was fundamental in international politics and in strengthening the Spanish economy. After his political stage, Piqué developed a successful career in the business field, presiding over Vueling Airlines, being CEO of OHL and participating in the boards of directors of companies such as SEAT and Airbus Spain. He was also president of the Círculo de Economía de Cataluña, from where he continued to promote economic and social debate in the country.

The event culminated with a collective recognition of Piqué's legacy as a committed intellectual and visionary leader, whose influence transcended borders. His outstanding career and contributions in the fields of economics, politics and geostrategy will remain as an inspiration for future generations.
