Last Thursday, April 13, the Círculo Ecuestre hosted a colloquium led by Daniel Sirera, candidate of the Popular Party in the municipal elections.

After the presentation of the president of the Círculo Ecuestre, Antonio Delgado, the politician held a dialogue with Joaquín Luna, journalist and columnist, expert in elections, from La Vanguardia, who acted as moderator of the act, framed in the Ciclo Alcaldables and promoted by the Círculo Ecuestre with the purpose of giving voice to the main candidates for mayor of Barcelona.

Sirera defends a Barcelona of "yes"

The act started with an x-ray by the speaker of the current situation of the city. Along these lines, the popular party candidate in the Catalan capital stressed that "we live in a city that has no future", to which he has defended that "in recent years Colau and Collboni have built the Barcelona of no; No to tourists, to private vehicles, to the expansion of the airport, to investments and to large events. That is why we have to turn it into the Barcelona of yes so as not to miss the train of progress”.

Given the possible pacts that could be produced after the results of the municipal elections, Daniel Sirera declared that "I have nothing to talk about with Colau and Maragall", but that "if we have to talk about getting Barcelona out of the pond, I will be willing to do so with Trias and Collboni”. However, the candidate said that "if Collboni is willing to do what he has done so far and Trias is willing to put Barcelona in the position of independence, don't count on me."

Against the tram on the Diagonal

The representative of the Popular Party in Barcelona also added his discrepancy that "Trias does not want to reverse all the misfortunes that Colau has caused in the city" and declared himself "in favor of studying which superillas must be maintained, which must be modified and which They should be removed." He also assured his “intention to eliminate the Diagonal tram” with the aim of “avoiding traffic chaos in Barcelona and dynamiting Pla Cerdà”.

During his speech at the Círculo Ecuestre, Daniel Sirera expressed his desire to “turn Barcelona into a multi-centre city where there are markets, like in London, which boost the economic activity of the neighbourhoods”. The moderator took advantage of the occasion to ask the speaker about the comparison between Barcelona and Madrid, to which Sirera said that "Madrid is working like a shot and in Barcelona opening a store costs the same as opening a nuclear power plant".

"The sensible alternative"

The electoral panorama was one of the topics that the speaker and the moderator delved into the most during the event promoted by the Círculo Ecuestre. Asked by Joaquín Luna, Daniel Sirera assured that “Barcelona has three alternatives: that of populism, with which we have lived for the last eight years; that of separatism, led by Trias and Maragall, and the sensible alternative, which is the one defended by the PP and aims to generate wealth and greater well-being”.

Daniel Sirera said that "there is no biblical curse that says that the PP cannot govern in Barcelona", for which he asked for "help to the people of Barcelona" so that they "opt for the PP as a useful vote, instead of giving the vote to political parties that will not get training”. He also claimed to feel "heir to Pasqual Maragall because of his way of doing politics, building bridges and trusting private initiative".

A long awaited list

Lastly, the Popular Party candidate in the Barcelona elections responded to one of the most acclaimed questions: "Who will be number two on his list?" Daniel Sirera claimed to have "a great bench in the Popular Party" and "a balanced list intention and with the capacity to govern the city". In addition, he argued that "for Trias and Maragall number two on their lists is important", since, in his opinion, "they will not finish their term".
