The Círculo Ecuestre hosted this week an interesting colloquium on the occasion of the election of Barcelona as the venue for the 37th edition of the Copa América.
The club had the honor of receiving Grant Dalton, General Director of the Emirates Team New Zealand and of the 37th BCN America's Cup 2024, and the businessman Daniel Puig, Vice President of Barcelona Global, member of the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica and member of the family that owns the Puig perfumery group, which played a key role in the bid for the Copa América.
The act, prior to the presentation of the sporting event, was welcomed by Antonio Delgado, President of the Equestrian Circle, and with the presentation of Enrique Lacalle, Vice President of the institution.
At the start of the colloquium, sponsored by the MoraWealth securities agency of the Andorran bank Morabanc, Puig explained how he tied the threads to make Barcelona the city chosen to host the Copa America. The businessman argued that the idea came from his own desire to improve the city and give it more potential.
Grant Dalton, the main person in charge of the sailing regatta, revealed some of the first information about the competition to the members of the Equestrian Circle. Among those that most surprised the public were the holding of the youth and women's America's Cup and the advances in sustainability and technology such as the hydrogen-powered boats that have been designed together with Toyota. Another piece of information that Puig and Dalton revealed to the members of the Barcelona club was the filming of a documentary that will show the regatta from start to finish.
Asked about the choice of Barcelona as the city for holding the Copa América, the speakers agreed on the need to leave a legacy that would enhance Barcelona's image on an international level. Dalton clarified that, despite having large candidate cities such as Malaga, Cork or Jeddah, intuition made him see that Barcelona had "something special".
The presentation event held at the Círculo Ecuestre was a great opportunity for all its members. They had the privilege of knowing first-hand the details of the 37th edition of the sailing regatta, which will be held in 2024 in the Catalan capital.
