On Tuesday, December 3, the Círculo Ecuestre had the honor of hosting Carme Riera, a prominent writer, academic and professor of Spanish Literature, in a conference framed within the series of colloquiums Barcelona through its writers, which captivated attendees with its depth and perspective on literature, creativity and the representation of women in the arts.
The event, which began at 7:00 p.m., was presented by Enrique Lacalle, president of the Círculo Ecuestre, and moderated by Eugenia Tusquets, artist and member of the club.
The evening, which was preceded by an optional dinner where members and attendees had the opportunity to share impressions and dialogue in a close and relaxed atmosphere, served to better introduce Carmen Riera, who has held the position of vice-director of the Royal Spanish Academy since December 2023. During the colloquium, the writer reviewed her outstanding literary and academic career, addressing topics such as the representation of women in literature, her work at the José Agustín Goytisolo Chair and her work on editorial and research projects. Her speech sparked a lively debate about the evolution of narrative in Spanish and the importance of the role of women in literary creation.
During the conference, Riera also reflected on the relationship between languages and creativity, a topic she has addressed at international events such as the International Congress of the Spanish Language.
The event concluded with warm applause from the audience, who appreciated the opportunity to listen to one of the most influential figures on the Spanish cultural and literary scene.
