The Metropolitan Club

It is the largest of the exclusive clubs on the Upper East Side, in an Italian Renaissance-style building. It was created by JP Morgan, in the 1890's. Morgan's club surpassed the others in magnificence. It is considered one of the best clubs in New York. The characteristic New York building is the work of Stanford White, an American architect, founding partner of the McKim, Mead & White studio, the most important North American studio of its time. . White was assassinated in 1906. This is Stanford White's most lavish and lavish work in Manhattan.

It has 47 rooms, as well as several private rooms with capacity for up to 300 people, a games room, a billiards room, a gym, a hairdresser's salon, a bar and a restaurant.

The use of a jacket and tie is mandatory.

Current members include leaders of foreign countries, CEOs of major corporations, and former US President Bill Clinton.

An attractive bar occupies most of the south end of the first floor, and the entire Fifth Avenue frontage is taken up by a spectacularly ornate reading room that often becomes a dining room for special banquets.

Unlike some clubs, the Metropolitan does not have special sports facilities.

In 2007, the club opened a rooftop access that includes a lounge, a naturally lit dining room on the raised level and the terrace.

Members and their guests are reminded that the use of mobile phones and laptops is not allowed anywhere in the Club, except in the private meeting rooms and bedrooms.
