Its origins date back to 1825 when Manchester was a prosperous center during the time of the industrial revolution. It is located in a Victorian-style building built in 1845 that later became the property of several banks to belong to the club again until now. It consists of 3 floors with an elevator, a grand staircase with a gallery of member caricatures. Library, reading room, rooms for receptions up to one hundred guests, bar, restaurant, conference room. The use of a jacket and tie is required except on very hot days.

It does not have accommodation but there is an agreement with the Jury's Hotel near the club to accommodate the corresponding members. There are some restrictions regarding smokers.
