Daniel Domenjó, CEO of Movistar Plus+, led a panel discussion on the challenges facing the audiovisual sector in the context of technological innovation and changing consumer habits at the Círculo Ecuestre this Thursday. The event began with an institutional presentation by Tirso Gracia, member of the Círculo Ecuestre Executive Committee, who contextualized the importance of analyzing how technology and consumer changes affect the Spanish audiovisual industry.

During the panel discussion, moderated by journalist and writer Màrius Carol, who opened the session by asking how he felt about the changes, Domenjó acknowledged that he has experienced these transformations "with some anxiety due to the worrying capacity to adapt, but also as a real opportunity to grow and improve the sector." He emphasized that Movistar Plus+ is adapting to new consumer habits, offering shorter series, arthouse films, and Spanish fiction with high creative value, and stressed that sports remain a fundamental pillar: "We are a sporting nation."
Domenjó also focused on the challenges posed by piracy in Spain and noted that the only way to combat it in the long term is through innovation. He stated that a large number of people who watch football do so by pirating, and that for many of them this happens at least once a week. “Piracy is socially accepted, and politically it is a challenge that requires unity. I call for more consensual and cohesive unity to at least stop and reverse this situation”, he affirmed.
As an example of how technological innovation can neutralize piracy, Domenjó highlighted experiences that will transform the way we experience live sports: from watching a penalty from the perspective of the goalkeeper or striker, to choosing one's position on the field, or even experiencing what happens in the presidential box, all thanks to artificial intelligence and audiovisual technology. “The ability to be technologically disruptive and innovative is what, in a few years, will drastically reduce the desire to pirate. The personalization, immersion, and quality of the experience we offer will surpass any alternative available through piracy today”, he stated.

Movistar Plus+ is deploying a new strategy based on innovation, exclusive content, and quality, adapting to the consumer changes that have transformed the sector. Domenjó emphasized that shorter, more agile series, arthouse films, and Spanish fictions with high creative value are key elements to building audience loyalty and offering value not found on other platforms.
Furthermore, he highlighted the collaboration with top-level directors and creative talent, such as Pedro Almodóvar, Alejandro Amenábar, Alberto Rodríguez, and Bayona, consolidating an audiovisual ecosystem that protects and enhances Spanish creativity.
“Content, content, and content. It's the best way to build subscriber loyalty and offer them added value not found on any other platform” , Domenjó concluded. For him, the ability to be disruptive and innovative is what will allow Movistar Plus+ to neutralize piracy and ensure the sustainability of the Spanish audiovisual model.
