Círculo Ecuestre hosted a breakfast colloquium entitled ‘Innovar o perder vidas’ (Innovate or Lose Lives) a week ago to launch a new edition of the Premio Joven Relevante (Young Relevant Award), which reaches its tenth edition this year. The session was presented and moderated by Álvaro Gámiz and featured the two most recent award winners: Pau Rodríguez, CEO of Methinks, and Elisenda Bonet-Carne, CEO of fetaLife Technologies.

Before the start of the colloquium, Gámiz highlighted the significance of this tenth edition and set the objective of broadening the award’s reach in order to engage a greater number of youth-led social projects. During the session, both awardees noted that the recognition enabled them to build a strong network of relationships that has helped them reflect on how to scale their projects and continue their development. They also underlined the knowledge acquired through sponsorship agreements with IESE and UIC.

Developments over the past year

Rodríguez stated that over the past year Methinks AI has entered the commercial phase and has established collaboration agreements with Siemens and Medtronic to continue validating its technology for the early detection of stroke through the use of artificial intelligence. He also added that in the coming weeks they expect to close a funding round that will allow them to focus on scaling the business over the next two years.

Bonet-Carne noted that fetaLife Technologies has developed a first viable artificial placenta prototype with animal fetuses and is currently working on reducing its size. Looking ahead to next year, she indicated that they expect to close a first funding round and to advance discussions with the Spanish Agency of Medicines in order to determine the requirements for future trials with human fetuses.
